A looong, looong time ago I joined this silly little dating site. I don’t think many folks from here are on it. Anyways, I joined mainly because there are a lot of quizzes… and I like taking quizzes when I’m bored.

I normally ignore all messages, unless they come from a certain real-life friend of mine who randomly found me on there one day. But today, after seeing the five-thousandth person on my Facebook feed take a stupid Facebook quiz, I broke down and decided to log back on and take another quiz. Just a side-bar… you shouldn’t have to send a quiz link to 4-8 people to get a result. That’s just stupid, Facebook.

Anywho… logged on, and didn’t get to the quizzes because I noticed I had 4 new messages. What the eff? One was just the site telling me about a super high match made with some random dude… like I care, one was from a deleted account, and one was from my friend.

The fourth one was a random note from a random stranger. Okay, so normally that’s where these whole dating sites work… strangers connecting and whatnot. But I’m not really on it for that. I’m on it for quizzes. (And friendship according to the profile… but that’s because quizzes isn’t an option.) Anyways, this random stranger just took me up on the offer of a few music choices I might like. And guess what? It wasn’t his band his was trying to sell me. It was just his honest opinion about music. He left the message open for response… and normally I would ignore it, write down the music, and take a quiz. But today, I looked at his profile and saw that we dig some of the same things. He’s seeing someone, which is good, because I’m not really looking. (Okay, that’s a whole ‘nother entry in itself) But yeah… I responded. To a stranger. On a dating site. This is totally not my scene. But who knows? Sometimes leaving comfort zones is a good thing. Right?

Goodness, I hope it is.

Well, looks like I finally used this blog for what it is… huh. Funny thing. Maybe I should do more crazy things more often. Or maybe this blog is finally living up to it’s name. I sure am thirsty.

Theme Songs

People were posting about their Theme Songs today on Twitter. As if I even know… but then I gave it thought during the day, and while driving home. Then today, I went to my iPod and listened to some of my top songs… that’s how I decided.

So… after giving it FAR too much thought, I have 3 theme songs:

Rob Thomas - “Problem Girl”… Matchbox20 - “Long Day”, and The Veronicas - “Revolution”.

Although I think “So Sad, So Lonely” by Matchbox 20 is a very close runner up. But the title gives the wrong impression of the song. I’m not sad or lonely. If it was most romantic song… A-ha “Take On Me” would have taken it.

Here are some select lyrics:

Matchbox 20 - Long Day:

I’m sorry ‘bout the attitude
I need to give when I’m with you
But no one else would take this shit from me
And I’m so
Terrified of no one else but me
I’m here all the time
I won’t go away
It’s me, yeah I can’t get myself to go away
It’s me, and I can’t get myself to go away
Oh God I shouldn’t feel this way

Reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It’s been a long day, always ain’t that right
And no Lord your hand won’t stop it
Just keep you trembling
It’s been a long day, always ain’t that right

Veronica’s - Revolution:

I am temperamental
Like a heart without a home
I am sentimental
But you don’t know me at all

I have expectations
I wanna be the one you call
And I want a conversation
But you don’t know me at all

Hold on tight
I am
I’m a revolution
Close your eyes
I am, I am
I’ll blow your mind
I am
I’m a revolution
Why do I have to explain
Who I am again and again
I am

Rob Thomas - Problem Girl

Don’t let ‘em get where they’re going to
You know they’re only what they think of you
You heard of this emotional trickery
And you felt like you were learning the ropes
But where you’re going now you don’t know

And when the kids on the street say
What’s your problem girl
And the weight of their smile’s just
Too much for you to bear
When they all make you feel
Like you’re a problem girl
Remember
You’re no problem at all
You’re no problem at all

Pride like promises can let you down
You thought that you’d be feeling
Better by now
You worry all the things they could do to you
You worry about the things they could say
Maybe you’re seeing things the wrong way

I know reading lyrics can be lame… but I couldn’t find great videos on YouTube. I definitely recommend adding these songs to your music collections though. Love them.

What’s your #mythemesong? Well it falls on March 27th every year. This is because three years (minus two days) ago I decided people rely FAR too heavily on Facebook and not enough on what they know. So I changed my birthday to March 27th to see if anyone would realize that we’d all celebrated last November. Not many did. I got tons and tons of happy birthday messages from folks… which kind of made me feel bad… until I noticed that many of those folks I hadn’t spoken to since they LAST wished me a happy birthday in November. And to this day, I’ll check and some people only write on my wall when they’re wishing me a Happy Birthday. (Twice a year.)

It was such trickery, the first one, that people at work were feeling bad that they hadn’t remembered. There was talk of cakes, and celebrations, and birthday cards —- until I got a call at about 3pm going: “Hey wait - wasn’t your birthday a few months ago?” And it was.

But now every year I change my birthday to March 27. (Usually around the 25th).

Why is this year different? Well in November, I had a very chill birthday. Didn’t really feel much like celebrating. SO I decided to throw a Mad Hatter worthy UNBIRTHDAY on March 27th. Funny hats and feather boa themed.

And that’s why today is my unbirthday. Huzzah! Celebrate with me? Bring your Feather Boa’s and Funny Hats to On The Rocks on Jasper Ave this evening starting around 8pm.

(And yes, today is my Sunday - so you’re helping me have a hungover Monday)

inside we're the same

Would you believe me if I told you that I’m actually really anti-social and just want to be left alone?

Companda

Last night I realized what was missing from my life. I need a Companda.

Please feel free to add your own:

It’s disputable - but Paul Ney was wearing the best tie tonight.

Multiple men dressed up for the event. (or came from work - I’m going with the first one.)

It was the highest attendance of any previous DemoCamps… and managed to peak as the 7th highest Twitter Trend during the presentations.

@SkepticSean and I attended High School together.

It took a tweet before @paulney and @eadnams realized we had walked from ETLC to RATT with @foomanizer

@stellal used to live on my right shoulder. To clarify, I was wearing a t-shirt that has a map of the London Underground on it… and she was pointing it out on said map.

I’m making this statistic up, but I would wager 87% of people in attendance considered meeting someone (for love?) using http://you-vs-me.com. I don’t think that @ryanleland much liked that idea.

@wburris has one of the raddest beards known to man.

There wasn’t a single person who attended who managed to meet all the other tweeters in attendance. No, not even @mastermaq

A certain twitter-folk left me in charge of their iPhone… I found a dark secret hidden on it.

@adampatterson and @frostedbetty had chicken lasagna for dinner. With garlic bread. Immediately it was asked that there be a #chickenlasagna meetup.

A memorial moment of silence was held for Trout. Ye fish, we knew all too little.

By Victoria Brett THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

If dinner is going to be from the drive-thru do yourself a favour and skip the fast-food soda fountain. If you’re going to take a night off from cooking, you can still put a little thought into what you drink.

BURGERS
A craft root beer or ginger beer is perfect with a cheeseburger, says Dave Del Bene, general manager at Clyde’s restaurant in Washington. “A delicious draft root beer is stunning on its own, but with a burger, it makes a pretty good afternoon.”

FRIED CHICKEN
Class up the takeout bucket of chicken with refreshing peach and mint shakes. Just boil water and fresh mint and let it steep, advised Food Network star Ingrid Hoffman. Then blend with peaches, vanilla ice cream and ice cubes.

PIZZA
Most people pair beer or an Italian wine with pizza, but a Spanish Garnacha (better known as Grenache) wine pairs nicely with the herbs in the tomato sauce, says David Snyder, a Philadelphia restaurant critic and wine connoisseur.

MEXICAN FOOD

Try a Sangria Senorial, a non-alcoholic soda made with wine grapes, lemon and cane sugar, with a similar flavour to sangria wine. Find it at Mexican food markets or online.

PAD THAI
A Latin Bellini with mango is a natural complement to Thai food, says Hoffman. Put mango chunks in a blender and puree until smooth. Add a bit of sparking wine as needed to blend. Spoon some of the mango puree into flutes, then fill with sparkling wine.

INDIAN FOOD
Snyder suggests a Viognier wine because the high acidity and fragrant aroma go well with paneer and curries. To wow guests, Hoffman says whip up a white kiwi sangria; the tropical kiwi goes with the spicy flavours in Indian dishes.

SUSHI
A ginger lime crush _ ginger, water, lime juice, sugar and ice cubes combined in a blender - is the perfect complement to the fresh taste of the raw fish and saltiness of the soy sauce, says Hoffman.

FRIED RICE
Try pineapple mojitos. The pineapple works well in Asian food, suggests Hoffman. Using a pestle or the end of a wooden spoon, in a tall glass mash together fresh mint, sugar and lime. Add ice and top off with pineapple juice concentrate, white rum and club soda.

BEEF TERIYAKI
Hoffman recommends a mandarin orange Champagne cocktail, since the mandarin will complement the beef. In a blender, combine mandarin orange sections, vodka, sparkling wine and lemon sorbet. Puree and enjoy.

Good to know… I now know it’s not just Cheeseburgers and Pepsi’s anymore… I’m happy there was someone out there to cover this hard-hitting piece of news.

before I sleep

Usually before I sleep I get my oddest and most creative thoughts. If I ever do end up sharing a bed with someone… He will need to put up with my random advertising schemes, survival notes, or giggles. My roommate used to get calls when I was just about asleep.

I don’t have a roommate, nor do I share my bed… So you will instead get the random thoughts. I’ll post them when I can.

What spurred this? Lying in bed this evening, I glanced out at the floor above mine… More specifically out the window at their balcony. If that person stood on their balcony and looked down to the right, they’d see me. Creepy.

But that’s the least of my problems.

What if I lie down one night, and look out at that balcony… And a vampire is there staring me down?

I’m not talking Twilight or Jean Claude sorts of Vampires… More of the evil True Blood sort. It would cause me quite the scare.

So, in conclusion… I hope vampires can only come inside homes if they’re invited. And in case I mistakenly invite a baddie in, thinking he’s a good Vampire, I hope I can take back the invitation, then they will have to leave.

30 things I should be doing --- instead of being on twitter.

1.
Subject: electrolytic copper foil

Surviving a Zombie Attack. This really depends on what sort of Zombies they are. I think Voodoo or Necromancy born Zombies would be harder to avoid or defeat… Correct me if I’m wrong… but I’m pretty sure you need to be by their grave to bind them back into it. Flesh or brain eating Zombies shouldn’t be that much of an issue. Especially considering where I live. It’s freezing cold winter that destroys humans 8 months of the year. Now consider the typical virus-Zombie. Not very bright, and would freeze to death. I’d hole myself up in a Wal-Mart or Costco for the warm months and wait until a freezing cold day in Winter. Then I smash their heads off with baseball bats while they’re frozen and burn the remains. Perhaps I’ve said too much…

Shooting a gun. I haven’t had the chance to do this yet… but I’ve played enough Sharpshooter, Police 911, and Lazer Tag to think that if the need arose, you better watch yourself.

Singing in an Indie parody lounge band. I think one of the only reasons I haven’t formed a band already is the fact that there isn’t a huge market for Indie parody lounge bands. I’m talking like a chick band… think Tegan and Sara meets Kimya Dawson meets Imogen Heap meets Richard Cheese. It would rock your socks and make all senstitive ears bleed. Who doesn’t love that?

Being a dude. Probably the easiest thing on my list. Just wear some band shirts/dress shirts and jeans and I’m set. Peeing standing up? Please. How hard could that possibly be? You get to fight more often, other dudes don’t take offence when you say something tongue-in-cheek, and ruthlessly tease your fellow dudes. Look, I’ve been practicing: “Your mom said that last night! While I was doing her.” and “You know how you’re gay? Two words: Those shoes.”

Voicing cute characters in Video Games. Do you need a replacement for Daisy in Mario Party? I’m your girl! A happy high-pitched girl voice? I can do it! My voice has been compared to Daisy saying: “I’m a winner!” or the female character in Fable 2 going: “Yeah!”. But let’s not stop there… Want a vicious female assassian with a cute high-pitched girl voice? I can do that too. I’m that diverse.

Living in a Biodome for a month. I’m not talking creepy, self-sufficent, drink your own pee Biodome… but just one of those ‘you have to be sequestered from most of society except these 6 other people’ Biodomes. Where part of it is a rainforest… kind of like Biodome the movie. (Pauly Shore not allowed in the dome for obvious reasons) I don’t think I’d mind it that much… in fact, I think I’d be rather content.

As always, suggestions are welcome. More to come as they’re thought up.

I can’t decide Whether you should live or die Oh,...

I can’t decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you’ll probably go to heaven
Please don’t hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It’s cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We’re going for a ride

Oh I could throw you in the lake
Or feed you poisoned birthday cake
I wont deny I’m gonna miss you when you’re gone
Oh I could bury you alive
But you might crawl out with a knife
And kill me when I’m sleeping
That’s why

"Eternity’s a terrible thought.
